Check

Checking a site

[ Page local links ] [ External links ] [ Site local links ]

SiteLite gives you a possibility to check links in your site. The report from a check is available in the report field in SiteLite and in a special file:
x-report.html, which are generated in the sites catalogue.

Links are identified and sorted in three categories: Page local, External and Site local .

Page local links

The page locals are identified by # in a href. SiteLite attempts to find a matching anchor in the same page. If it does not, it reports an unmatched page local link.

External links

Externals are identified as legal URL's starting with news, http, mailto. These are not checked by SiteLite but are reported as unchecked external links. The reason why they are not checked automatically is that it is time consuming and in 98 % of the cases the checking will not be necessary. You may however check any of those links manually from the x-report.html, simply by clicking them.

Site local links

All hrefs which are not identified as one of the above, is categorised as a site local link. These are reported as unmatched site local links, if the matching files is not found within the site catalogue.

You may however instruct SiteLite to try to fix such links. You may turn the repair mechanism on under the menu Properties- Settings. SiteLite can either try to repair the links automatically by use of the filenames it finds in the site catalogue, or it may prompt user for a suggested repair. If SiteLite is set up to try to auto fix, it will prompt user for suggestions if it does not find exactly one match in filename.

Links which are relative, but pointing out of the site catalogue are beyond SiteLites scope for repair and are reported as unmatched. Auto fix may cause errors in such situations.
