    • Design reviews (focus mainly on "content")
    • Social chat (focus mainly on avatars)
    • Games
    • Events such as conferences, lectures, theatre, roll-playing etc.
  • Represent users using avatars
  • Users can navigate through the virtual world
  • Users can see each others avatars and communicate with each other
  • Users can (often) perform shared activities in the virtual world
  • Inter-user communication, shared avatar movement and world state changes are managed by communication between the clients and the server
