VRML tools

Tools

To create VRML models, you need at least a text editor, and a VRML viewer for viewing the result.

Other useful tools include:

  • A fast computer with a fast 3D graphics accelerator...
  • A 3D modelling tool that can export VRML 97 files (e.g 3D Studio, Lightwave, Inspire 3D, Strata3D, Spazz3D,...)
  • Optimisation tools (e.g. Chisel)
  • A digital camera for taking images that can be used to create textures
  • Image manipulation tools for working with textures (e.g. Photoshop)
  • GZip for compressing VRML files for more efficient delivery over the Internet
  • There is lots of information about VRML tools on the Web
  • Terrain modelling tools
  • Human modelling tools (e.g. Poser)
  • Geometry conversion tools (e.g. to convert DXF files to VRML)
  • Rendering tools, both for creating realistic still images and for using creating more realistic pre-coloured interactive environments (e.g. using LightScape)
