
IntroductionI spent a great deal of time studying hypermedia theory during my final year as a CIT undergraduate at the University of Surrey. That was in 1993/94, when the World Wide Web was just starting to gain in popularity. Although the Web is surprisingly primitive compared with some other hypermedia systems, it is particularly interesting because it is so large and well established. Mark-up Languages for the Web is a short course for the 1999 Software Design students at Østfold College. The course starts at the end of September 1999 and I will be giving five lectures at a rate of one per week.
